IndyCar returns following Álex Palou’s victory at Long Beach. The American open-wheel series kicks off May—its biggest month—with the race on the Indianapolis road course, serving as a warm-up for the Indianapolis 500 (Sunday, May 24). The Spanish driver arrives as the championship leader at one of his favorite tracks, having won the last three editions (2023, 2024, and 2025).

The 3.92-kilometer, 14-turn Indianapolis road course incorporates parts of Turns 1 and 2 and the main straight of the legendary oval. This Saturday, drivers will complete 85 laps (333.65 kilometers) on a layout that has been a regular fixture on the IndyCar calendar since 2014. Will Power (2015, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021) holds the record for most victories on this course with five, but in recent years, Álex Palou has dominated the Indy GP, winning the last three editions (2023, 2024, 2025).
Additionally, attention should be paid to Palou’s Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon, who won in 2020 and 2023, and Josef Newgarden, who took victory in 2020. Rinus Veekay (2021) and Alexander Rossi (2022) have also triumphed on the Indianapolis road course.
An Exciting Weekend with Key Changes
IndyCar arrives at a circuit that is Palou’s territory. The Spaniard leads the championship with 205 points. Kirkwood is second with 188, and Malukas third with 142. Close behind are O’Ward (4th, 136 points), Lundgaard (5th, 131), Newgarden (6th, 130), and McLaughlin (7th, 127).

The American series lands in Indianapolis with changes to the Push-to-Pass button, the system that provides an extra 60 horsepower to the cars to facilitate overtaking. At Long Beach, IndyCar experienced some malfunctions with this system and has since updated the regulations. Starting from this Indianapolis GP and only on road and street courses, drivers will be able to press the Push-to-Pass button for as long as they want “once they cross the alternate start-finish line and once the green flag has been shown,” according to an IndyCar statement. The rule prohibiting overtaking before the restart line remains in effect, and timing parameters, including the maximum time per press, stay unchanged (15 or 20 seconds, depending on the circuit).
IndyCar Indianapolis GP: Schedule and How to Watch
